I grew up in a family business… My mom and dad, an uncle, a few cousins, and a bunch of others that acted like they were related too.
While I’d consider my family relationships to be “healthy” I know as well as anyone that family business dynamics can be tricky.
This is especially true when it comes time to make big transitions – such as the handoff from one generation to the next.
In working with dozens of family businesses over the years, I’ve seen transitions go ?, ☠️, ? and ? (aka, bad).
And I’ve also seen some go smooth – with love, grace, and peace of mind.
Check out Ryan’s story about what his family did RIGHT in passing the business down from one generation to the next. As well as what he’s learned in the process of transitioning into the role of CEO after 25 years in the business.
If you’re in a family (or “framily”) business, I hope this helps you approach transitions in a way that protects both the business and the relationships that matter most.
